NCC History

Historic representation of NCC

The history of India’s National Cadet Corps (NCC) goes back to the early 20th century. It began with the University Corps in 1917 and later developed into the University Training Corps (UTC) and the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) in 1942 during British rule.

After World War II, based on the recommendations of the H.N. Kunzru Committee, NCC was officially established under the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948 to promote discipline and patriotism among young people. It was formally inaugurated on 15th July 1948.

Over time, NCC expanded into a tri-service organization with the addition of the Air Wing in 1950 and the Naval Wing in 1952, becoming the largest uniformed youth organization in the world.

Unit Inauguration

The NCC unit at Varin International Residential School was inaugurated with great enthusiasm. The unit was brought under the FSFS (Full Self-Financed Scheme), enabling better training support and opportunities for cadets.

Inaugurated on 23rd June 2025

The event took place at the school campus in the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Col. Narender Bhandari (Administration Officer, 4 Kar Battalion NCC) and Sri R. Krishnaiah (Chairperson of Virat Trust (R)).

Other respected officers and management members present included Smt. H.K. Mamatha, Secretary of Virat Trust (R). The institution, under the leadership and guidelines of Mr. Shivakumar S K (Principal) and Mr. Mohan S M (NCC Officer), played a key role in establishing the unit.

Drill & Physical Fitness

NCC training focuses on the overall development of students through regular drill, physical fitness, teamwork, and basic weapon training.

Practical Experience

To provide practical experience, cadets were also taken for simulator firing, helping them understand weapon handling in a safe and controlled way. These activities build confidence, discipline, and leadership qualities among students.

Camps & Certifications

Students get the opportunity to attend various camps such as Annual Training Camps (ATC), Combined Annual Training Camps (CATC), National Integration Camps (NIC), and the Republic Day Camp (RDC). NCC also provides ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ certificates, which are useful for higher education and beneficial for students interested in defence careers.

Community Engagement

NCC also encourages students to give back to society. On the occasion of NCC Day, our cadets took part in a cleanliness drive in the village of Honnudike, promoting awareness about hygiene and community responsibility. Such activities help students understand the importance of service and develop a caring attitude towards society.
