Management, Operations, and Stock Verification
The library at Varin International Residential School is a systematic process designed to ensure smooth management and effective use of library resources by students and staff. It begins with the selection and acquisition of books based on academic needs and recommendations from teachers. Once the books are received, they are recorded in the accession register and entered into the library system software (NewGenLib). Each book is then classified using standard methods such as the Dewey Decimal Classification, catalogued with necessary details, and labeled for easy identification. After processing, books are arranged on shelves according to their subject and author categories. Students and teachers can access these resources during library hours. The librarian maintains records of issued books, due dates, and overdue items. Regular monitoring, stock verification, and maintenance of books are carried out to ensure the library remains updated and organized.
Involves teachers and management recommending academic and general reading materials, after which the librarian reviews publishers' catalogs and places orders that are approved by the administration.
Each book is assigned a unique accession number. Details such as title, author, subject, ISBN, barcodes along with spine labels are recorded in physical and digital form using the Dewey Decimal Classification and NewGenLib software.
Involves enrolling students and staff into the Library Management System. Each member is issued a library ID. Students can issue 1 book for 15 days, while staff members can issue up to 5 books.
A student's selected book is scanned along with their ID to generate a due date. Upon return, the system updates availability and calculates any overdue fine automatically.
Involves periodic checking of books to track missing items, repair or replace damaged books, and conduct a comprehensive annual stock audit.
Includes reading sessions, book fairs, and specialized book campaigns to promote student engagement and cultivate a lifelong love for reading.
A 15 Book Campaign is an initiative where students are encouraged to read 15 books within a set period, maintain a reading log with titles, authors, and summaries, and participate in reading sessions and book-related activities. The librarian tracks progress and ensures book availability, while the school recognizes students' achievements through certificates or rewards to promote literacy and a love for reading.
